Generator is a design-led European chain of hostels that has just opened its first location in the U.S. and it's 100 feet from the Beach in Miami. Their website says "Generator Miami embraces its original design aesthetic, fusing old American glamour with a taste of Cuban spice and contemporary elements making it the perfect backdrop for your experience-led stay." Just one glance at the decor and its hard to argue.
Back in July Miami New Times reported that Generator Hostels was opening its first U.S. presence on Miami Beach and that they tapped one of South Florida's most creative food and beverage professionals in the process, Gui Jaroschy. Gui was named the director of bar and restaurant concepts for Generator Miami and is best known for his work at Broken Shaker and was named New Times' Best Bartender in 2016.
Now that they have opened their doors Miami Eater tells us that the brand features two bars, The Jim & Neesie and Driftway serving plenty of frozen drinks and low ABV cocktails in a cozy living room-like setting. Food will be served by Chef Daniel Roy featuring ceviche, burgers, pasta, and more.
In addition to upscale design aesthetic and a fun brand vibe, it is notable that a hostel is offering rooms as low as twenty-five dollars a night per bed on the beach. The affordable rate still provides amenities like a pool, free wifi, beach towels and breakfast. What does this mean for its more expensive hotel neighbors and should we be encouraging more hostels like this in Miami? Let us know your thoughts.
