Felix's Choice: Dining with Friends Edition

How often does this happen to you: you run into some friends and decide that it’s been way too long, so you plan a date to grab dinner soon to catch up, perfect! But then you're stuck with the hardest part of going out to dinner: deciding where to go.

Attempting to make dinner plans with friends or taking visitors from out of town to dinner in Miami can be overwhelming when you always want to pick the perfect restaurant - yet there seem to be a million different choices.

Going out to enjoy yourself with great company shouldn’t be stressful in the slightest, so here’s Felix’s recommendations to take the pressure off.

@altermiami

Alter Miami is a sophisticated and exceedingly delicious restaurant located in Wynwood. The attention to detail throughout this place is remarkable. Their menu offers a 5 course, 7 course, and a Chef’s Tasting option - but no matter which dining adventure your group chooses you can rest assured that it will be a wonderful culinary experience. The dinner is an chic and gourmet experience in itself, so the company you bring with you is only a plus.

@embermiami

Ember Miami, located in the Miami Design District is a wood-fired American bistro with incredible food complimented by the perfect atmosphere. Brought to Miami by Brad Kilgore, the same chef who created Alter and Kaito, Ember is a restaurant that has the culinary experience and a prime location to ensure you have an unforgettable dining experience, each and every time.

Komodo, located in Brickell, is a three-story indoor and outdoor restaurant that has remained one of the trendiest spots in the area. The food is impeccable and the vibe is truly one-of-a-kind, especially for those visiting from out of town, Komodo is the perfect place to make a Miami impression.

Inside the Mandarin Hotel one can enjoy authentic Peruvian flavors at La Mar by Gastón Acurio. With a mix of indoor and outdoor seating you simply cannot go wrong. Outside provides you with a breathtaking view overlooking Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline while the interior is intimately designed with wooden and other natural elements creating a intimate atmosphere. Some of the best ceviche you can find, La Mar gives friends the perfect excuse to meet up to try it again.

You might have already heard about the trendy Wynwood spot KYU, don't get caught up on the pronunciation (Q) - it's a cool place. It might look like a hole in the wall type of restaurant, but once you walk inside illuminating lights reveal the true character of the restaurant. Wooden tables and greenery fill the space gifting it with a wholesome feel. The delicious and diverse Asian inspired menu offers tapas styled food perfect for sharing. Try their Thai fried rice stone pot, which is perfected right in front of you as waiters come and mix up an egg into your meal. In addition to the unique menu, Kyu offers hand crafted cocktails that are delivered in unique display cups to sophisticate your drinking. A perfect place to catch up with friends - however we do recommend making a reservation because this place is always busy, for the right reason!

@ballandchainmia

Ball and Chain is an iconic venue from the 1930s-1950s that has since rematerialized as a live music restaurant with authentic Cuban-style food and drinks, along with a lively nightclub with some of the most intoxicating salsa vibes you can find. A highlight of Little Havana, Ball and Chain is a fantastic place to go to dinner not only for their amazing cocktails and food options, but for the energetic atmosphere that can make anyone want to dance.

@cafelatrovamiami

Also contributing to the amazing culture throughout Little Havana is Café La Trova. James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Bernstein and iconic bartender Julio Cabrera came together to create the incredible restaurant, and it definitely does not disappoint. Jazz music fills the air during the week, and driving trova music on the weekends. According to the Miami News Times, “It's not a restaurant; nor is it a bar or a club or a performance venue. It's some unnamed combination of all of them.” Grab your friends and explore Little Havana, and end at Café La Trova for amazing food, drinks, and music – the perfect combination for a perfect night.

@novikovmiami

Novokov was highly anticipated as being the first outpost of the restaurant brand in the United States, and you can find it right here in Downtown Miami. Novokov offers fantastic views of the Biscayne Bay, and delicious Chinese-Japanese food. Not only does it offer an open kitchen, but the restaurant also has an open area where they display all of their produce. The whole restaurant is very instagrammable, perfect for those “finally reunited” posts with all your friends.
