Astra, the Greek word for star, is a fitting name for this new open-air rooftop bar as it features views of the starry night sky and serves up Greek inspired food and style. Located in Wynwood above its sister restaurant Sette Osteria which opened about six months ago, the upper level stands out from the street with an eye-catching pink mural by Punk Me Tender featuring large 3D butterflies.
Sette Osteria made its name in Washington, D.C., as one of the district's favorite places for house-made pastas, pizzas, and wine for more than 15 years. Now they are forging their way into the Miami market and taking a cue from the neighborhood and other successful restaurants and bars who utilized art installations to help draw attention as tag worthy photo ops.
Behind the menu at Astar Rooftop Garden is executive chef Kosme Sanchez, who’s creating Mediterranean dishes like a Greek salad; a meze mashup of fried zucchini, squash and eggplant, cheese, lemon and tzatziki sauce; charcoal grilled baby lamb chops; and the galaktobóuriko, a Greek dessert made with filo, semolina custard, honey and lemon syrup. The bar will be serving cocktails incorporating classic Greek liqueurs such as Mastika and Ouzo.
Astra is open seven days a week at 5 p.m. with weekend brunch with live music in addition to yoga classes and private events in the works.
